Keynote Speakers
Speakers at the Conference have been selected according to their relevance to the conference themes, their experience, and the intellectual rigour they bring to the conference. Several speakers have significant experience in overseas jurisdictions, on which they will be reflecting. Others have academic or practitioner backgrounds, or in several instances, a combination of both. Speakers bring knowledge of the issues and challenges at the cutting edge of public sector management, public administration and government.

Dr Peter Aucoin FRSC CM
Peter Aucoin is Eric Dennis Memorial Professor of Government and Political Science at Dalhousie University and is a Senior Fellow of the Canada School of Public Service. He has served in an advisory capacity to government at all levels in Canada, and to the Cabinet Office in the UK. In 2006 Prof Aucoin was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.The Honourable Jocelyne Bourgon
Jocelyne Bourgon is President Emeritus at the Canada School of Public Service. From 2003-07, Ms Bourgon served as Canada's Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In 1994 she was appointed Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet, the first woman to hold this position. From 1994-99, Ms. Bourgon led the Canadian public service through some of its most important reforms since the 1940s. She is known for her contribution to the modernisation of its service delivery functions and strengthening its policy research capacity.Professor Glyn Davis AC
Professor Davis is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. He has worked in Queensland as Commissioner for Public Sector Equity and as Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Professor Davis will deliver the 2008 Garran Oration during the Conference.Alex Matheson
Alex is a New Zealand-based adviser on public governance and management, working at a senior level for central agencies in the New Zealand government and on international development projects. From 2000 to 2005 Alex worked as a Division Chief with the OECD in Paris.Paul Posner
In 2005 Professor Paul Posner was appointed Director of the Public Administration Program at George Mason University, Washington DC, USA.From 1995 to 2005 Professor Posner held senior academic positions at Georgetown University and George Washington University in Washington DC.
Prior to that he led the budget and public finance work of the US General Accounting Office (GAO) for 14 years.
